Cheap engine
I have a 305 that is burning oil really bad among other things i'm sure as seeing that i only get 200 miles per 15 gallon tank. I am gonna put a 383 stroker in thise december most likely. I was wondering what would be the best way to repair the engine or if i should just go and buy a new/used cheap working engine. The engine is not gonna be in the car very long so i don't need something that is gonna last 5 years or something but until december.

Typically replacing the valve stem seals makes a big difference. It can be done without removing the heads from the engine.
While you're at it, replace the intake manifold gaskets. They've been known to let oil into the intake ports.
If those two don't help, get a cheap JY engine with a warranty to get you by. Or, keep adding oil and cleaning spark plugs.

it also gets really hot about 250 when i am driving in town. I don't use the air conditioner and i always keep enough oil in it. I am gonna try and drive it about 300 miles at the end of this month and am wondering if I should be doing this with the way it burns oil.
