89 camaro #'s matching worth messing up?

i have an 89 camaro rs, all the original body, still has factory everything, nothings been hacked at all in this car only has 40k miles, i want to build a really stout engine and possible slap on a procharger when i get the money, would it be a bad idea to put it in this car, or should i just find a car with no motor trans and decent body & int to build up

Does it still have the factory original engine? Trans? What about everything else? Realisticly, if its not a special edition, or something spectacular, its not really worth anything special. #'s matching really doesnt matter anyway.

Unfortunately your car is worth nothing. I was in your saem shoes a few years back. I bought my RS with 21,000 miles and had ever new sticker and receipt from the dealer. I was afraid to mod it until I did some research and talked to a few insurance companies. My car, if totaled, would only yeild me a few grand max. Therefore I have since modded it to the hilt and have a 34K on her now. The only thing special about RS cars is what joy it gives its owner. Sadly that is about it.

yeah if you wanna put a different engine in it and your afraid of the value dont be .....go have fun and enjoy your ride and dont worry about what others may say its your car ......does it have a 350 or a 305 or v6 ....???...if its a 350 build it to the hilt if its a 305 you can still build it to run with most built 350s but your gonna sink a little bit more money in it if its a v6 scrap the engine and build a 350 ...lol...but no matter what you do just build it to what you like and something you can enjoy....good luck and happy building ...

oh man that would have been sweet as heck ...but you also gotta look at the numbers of camaros out there ...and the numbers of stock normal camaros out there and then the ones that were special order or police edition or the trans am tta s alot of those will be worth some good cash some day but i dont believe that a stock 305 or 350 camaro with out a special order something on it will be worth tons of cash but you never know i mean who would think that a damn gremlin would be goin for 3000 bucks on ebay...LMAO so its really hard tellin what will be worth what nowadays i still would just build it to what you like any way cause thats whats gonna make it priceless to you no matter what .....

My opinion is this: If you dont enjoy the car, it isnt worth a cent. Do what you want, then you'll be happy. Happiness is a lot more important than resale value.

I don't think you're asking the right question. What you should be asking yourself is, "Is it worth it to keep it original just in case it becomes valuable someday?"

As stated above, the anwser is really up to you, but is probably "no". In 40 years? Who knows. Are you willing to preserve and store it until then to see if Hollywood needs something to crash in one of their stupid remakes? Think about it, what movies did they make in '89 using a new RS?

I started down this path about 25 years ago with the '57. 13 years ago, I saw a beautifully restored '56 Bel Air 4-door that the guy was trying to sell for $6k. It was still for sale 3 years later.

I'm enjoying my car a lot more since I gave up on the "restored to factory original" idea. 4-doors are parts cars, not keepers. Same for RS's, I'm afraid.
