Lt1

I was wondering do they still make the LT1 and where can I get one. I would like a new one if they can make them but if they dont do i have to do some junk yard hopping.
Thanks
Mitchell

They do not make it. You can buy core Lt1 shortblocks from GM but they are an arm and a leg. You are going to have to get one from a yard or any other place that sells them once they are pulled from their donor.

That is the iron head version. I don't think they make the aluminum one. I could be wrong. It would be interesting to see if they did. I think all of the new stuff for the LT1 motor has just been sitting on the shelves for years now. GM has a habit of doing that.

Not sure on which version that was, but the question was where could he find a new one . BTW shifty, you know which years got the aluminum heads? I was talkign to a guy at the speed shop and he was saying my heads are aluminum and I was under the impression 94+ got iron heads. Aluminum was just the 93's and maybe the impala's? I told him their iron and he tapped it with some screw driver lightly and told me thier aluminum. I still stood by that they were iron...

Nope, all LT1's that came out of Camaros and Firebirds and Vettes got aluminum heads. Only the Caprices and Impalas had Iron heads.

Nope. Every vette and f-body LT1 had the same aluminum heads. The B-body LT1's had the larger chamber Iron version.

whats the difference between the "Old" lt1 and the "New" LT1 is the link you sent me one that will fit into a 3rd gen? Also if i but an lt1 that had like 70k on it could i do anything to it to make it run like new again? I was thinking like a small bore and replacing rocker arms and a new cam and what not and i could get a good 200-300k on it or am i just being crazy here?

A 70,000 mile LT1 will run like new as long as it has had a good maintenance history. There is no real old and new LT1 but there was sublte changes throughout the years with the f-body desing. Any LT1 engine will bolt into a 3rd gen. There are many other things to condiser but the Gen I and Gen II motors share the same exact extenal dimensions and exhaust locations.

When I said "old LT1" I meant the one from the sixties or seventies, whenever it came out.
