G.M ZZ4 conversion kit for LG4/L69
Did anyone here ever do this swap or have one in their car.Im talking about the WHOLE kit not just the ZZ4.G.M has discontinued this kit,But i read in CHPs july issue a dealer in texas still has them or some or one?Just want to know if it was worth it for the money involved, before i call.Would like to get this for my Z.If its still possible......
Scoggin-Dickey did have at least one kit the last time I checked with them (which was quite awhile ago). You might also want to check with gmpartsdirect.com.
I came close to getting the kit myself, but a lack of money stopped me. You might want to get a GM performance parts catalog (or just glance over it at a dealer). It has a description of what you get in this kit.
Personally I think it is quite a deal. Along with the engine, dual snorkel intake and air cleaner housing, high flow exhaust manis, etc., etc., you get a dual cat exhaust, IIRC. The cost to piece this together is far more than the cost of the kit.
Best of all, when installed per directions, the kit is smog legal in all fifty states (including the People's Republik of California).
It boils down to personal preference, but I think it is a great deal.

I just checked GM Parts Direct and it comes up like you can buy it.
Just used this p/n 10185077 and it popped right up.
GM PART # 10185077 *
CATEGORY: Eng Asm-(must provide commercial shipping address)
PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $6,428.57
OUR PRICE: $4,500.00
DESCRIPTION: HO 350 CAMARO PERFORMANCE PKG
Chevrolet engineers have developed an emission-legal conversion kit to install a High Output 5.7-liter (350ci) small-block V8 in a 1982-87 Camaro originally equipped with an LG4 or L69 305ci V8 engine and a 700R4 automatic tranmission. This coordinated package of components significantly improves vehicle performance while retaining all required emission controls.

Well I called that # on the article.Just as i thought.Turns out the guy at CHP magazine that writes the column made a mistake. The kit has long been discontinued. Both scoggin & Gm parts direct dont have any at all & cant get any either.Oh well.......
Okay, so the kit is no longer available. The engine is still available. Any part that GM no longer makes (such as the dual snorkel air filter housing, scoops and hoses) as well as some parts that GM still makes, are probably available used. What are you waiting for?

BECAUSE.The components by themselves are almost twice the price the kit was.The dual cat exhaust alone is over $600.Im not paying anywhere near double the kit.Which was over 6 grand from the dealer. Then you have to deal with the smog police.Since the kit is out of production. The E.O.# is no longer valid.
That's why you need to look for used parts. BTW, don't bother looking for a used dual cat (at least I doubt you'll find one). But, why don't you give Dyno Don a shout, if you want something that's smog legal. He can set you up with something that you will find more than satisfactory.

Just up the 5 (north) to the 57 north to Katella (I think) in Orange by the Pond. I think his tel. is 714 633-5168. He can get you something as good, or better, than that kit, for less money, and you'll still be smog legal. He's a member of this board. Look him up.

The ZZ4 motor will never pass Calif smog now. The alum Vette heads it uses has no EGR. Too bad the Kit is history.

The later conversion kits didn't hook up the EGR - the factory decided it wasn't needed for the NOx emissions requirements with the ZZ4 engine. So, shouldn't have a problem with the sniffer. If you mount the valve on the intake (and it does have the EGR boss), you'll pass visual (for that, anyway). Paint the heads black. Disguise it as much as possible otherwise. Of course, if they hook up the vacuum pump to the EGR valve, you're "hosed".
The parts in the kit are not all available anymore. However, I did get the radiator fan switch from a Pontiac dealer not too long ago. The left air scoop has not been available for quite awhile now, as well as the dual snorkel air cleaner. So, used is your only source for them now (even twice the price won't get them from the dealer).
