computer question for a 350 swap

hey guys, i have a 91 rs with the typical 305 tbi ... i was told that i do not need my computer anymore after i swap in my 355 carbed engine.... is this true? what about the speed sensors and all the guages? can i just disengage all the engine components of the computer and leave the other wires connected? or how does this work? because i need all my guages to work correctly. thanx alot

That's the general idea, assuming you don't have a digital speedometer.

This is, of course, an "off-road only" modification in the eyes of federal law.

"...street legal" is a mixed bag. The Federal standards say it has to be what the factory put on, or certified replacement parts of components (catalytic converter, EGR valve, etc.). Or, another factory system of the same year as the chassis or later in its entirety, or certified replacement parts. The regulations are Federal, enforcement is local. There's a difference between meeting the letter of the law, and what you can get away with.

"...pass inspection" is a local thing. You'll have to check with your local authorities concerning what they require. You'll probably get a better answer if you ask what all they test and/or inspect for, rather than asking, "What all do I need to have on the car to pass?".
