good deal or not
I finally got a thirgen last week. It is a 85 Trans am ws6, it has a carbed 305 5spd. It only has 119000 miles and every thing works in it for $1400. The 305 is not much for power so my friend found this guy who sells motors. The motor is currently in a 1971 caprice it is a chevy 400 that runs and everything for $300 is it a go or no go. I know it will bolt up no problem. If I do get it I plan on getting a stroker kit for it to make it a 454 from Eagle. It should have between 400 and 600 horse depending on what other mods we do to it

A '71 Caprice 400 will be a dog. It needs different heads and cam to make much more power than your LG4. Honest.
Stroking a factory 400 block borders on self-abuse. Keep the 3.75" crank, fit it with 5.7" rods and matching pistons, bored .030"-over if it needs it to clean up the cylinder walls. With proper heads, cam, induction, and exhaust, it will be all the power you'll need until you're willing to spend the same money you have on the engine in transmission, rear end, and suspension upgrades.
