Putting in 350 question Help!!

Okay, I bought my 87' z28 with a blown 305 in it. I ripped the 305 out and threw it in the scrap bin. I then bought a 69' 350 to put in. I am going to use a carb. My question is can I put a normal fan on (non electric) or do I have to use an electric fan. I would prefer to use a normal fan but this is my first 3rd gen and I don't know about the fans and stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

i used to have electric fan for my 2.8 but wen i swapped in my 350 i converted to the "non-electric " fan that goes on the water pump. You will get about 10-20 horsepower if you keep the electric fan i have heard. but im not sure if thats true or not. my electric fan didnt work wen i got my car anyways, so i kept it that way.:lala:

A mechanical fan will fit, my '82 originally had one when it was 305 CFI.

Mechanical or Clutch fans where standard on most LG4 cars, (carbed weak 305), it will fit under a camaro hood no problem ... not sure on Firebirds

Use the electric fan. It's better. Cools better, uses less power. You will gain nothing by downgrading it.

not that Im doubting you, but isn't a clutch fan better at cooling?

the LT1 I pulled from a wrecked Roadmaster had the HD Cooling package on it part of the towing package and it was a clutch style?

Im personally switching to dual fans as I am currently installing it in my 85, just wondering what's the deal thats all.
