350 swap in

Will a TBI 350 out of an 87 Suburban fit into my 86 firebird?

Yes. But remove any and everything that has to do with induction on that engine and change it. Get a new cam too.

You dont want anything to do with TBI. Do a and you will find out all about swirl port heads, TBI, and all the other problems that come with it.

Now don't say that Although not always ideal TBI can provide nice power levels while maintaing good fuel economy and overall drivability when paired with the right parts. People just give up on it when the chip buring comes along. Plus if you max it out you can alsways convert to carb or another multi port set-up and hardly lose any of the parts you have already invested into your motor.

Im not concerned with power or performance right now. The cars been out of service for about 2 years now and I miss driving it. I'm still woundering if the wiring harness will plug into my pcm that was for a carbed engine or if i would have to get one for a TBI.

Whether you go to TPI or TBI or any other FI system you are going to need a harness that is desinged for that set-up.

Put the 350 long block only in your car. In other words, transfer the intake manifold and everything above it, alternator, water pump, power steering, air conditioner, distributor, harness, sensors, etc., from your current engine to the 350.

Hit yourself LOL

As of right now, id get a Edelbrock rpm intake, and a good 750 cfm carb.

Later on, you could get vortec heads, and a xe 262, 268 or 274 camshaft.

For the most part. However, there are IAC differences between the truck TBI's and car TBI's. Not all of them but most of the older ones are different. You will need to do some splicing.

It would have been nice to know the state of your car up front.

At any rate...

If you don't have emissions inspection/testing, the simpliest way to get it on the road will be with a non-computer controlled distributor and carb. You'll need a different intake manifold as well: Weiand makes one that will bolt up to those heads ('87-up; but it doesn't have EGR valve provision - however, I'm assuming for the sake of this arguement that won't be an issue). Since your car originally had a carb in it to begin with, this route will be much, much simplier than trying to get all the harness/computer/sensors/pieces to make the TBI work that it just happens to have on it right now.

That's a Holley number (Holley owns Weiand, I know), with square-bore carb mount only. Summit p/n HLY-300-64.

The manifold I was thinking of is the 8024. Summit p/n WND-8024.

Why they offer a square-bore mount w/EGR manifold (the Holley), but non-EGR only w/spread-bore mount (the Weiand) for the '87-up configuration is beyond me.
