305 to 350

Well I was going to try putting some bolt ons on my 305 TBI but as I was told from fellow mechanics, basically all the money I am dumping into it, I could score me a decent 350 with twice the potential of the 305. So I did some research and contacted a few local dealers and one of them here "Northland Motors" has an engine which they call a 350 H.O..

The engine pushes 300hp/425lbs torque at the flywheel. That is pretty much my goal for performance and they only want $1899 + Tax. They would even give me a $500 discount if I had an old 350 core but they are not interested in the 305. I have a mechanic who will be doing all the swapage however I wanted to keep the TBI unit as I really come to like the look of the chrome air cleaner.

Here is my question. When swapping out the 305 for this 350, by keeping the TBI, will I have to swap out my ECM? Will a custom burnt chip fix any problems? The mechanic knows how to do the swap but isn't sure if the computer will get along with the new motor. Any help here would be greatly apreciated.

You should not need a new ECM, but a new chip. You should also get 350 injectors for your TB. When I did my swap, I got the whole engine with the TBI. I had to swap the upper injector pod with my 305, because the lower half of the TB had different linkage locations.
I also went ahead and got the recommened 350 ESC and Knock sensor too.
As a matter of fact, I am still running with the stock 305 chip, but will be changing that; hopefully soon.
If you can datalog, then after you have everything in, send that to Brian at http://www.tbichips.com/default.htm for him to make you a custom chip. That is, if you are not into burning your own.
Q: Is this 350 a roller motor?
BTW, if you haven't done so, the intake polishes up real nicely. Just find some hi-temp clear coat to spray on it afterwards. I didn't even know about this until after I did mine
Good luck. You will be happy with the results

Yeah I do my own datalogging and I am gonan start practicing on burning on the 305 TBI. This will give me plenty of time to get good at it and when the 350 gets dumped in the T/A I can start cooking a performance chip for it. Its also cheaper this way. Digikey sells chips for $3 a piece so I bought 10.
