Eagle Stroker kits? for my big block

Hey guys ive been lookin in jegs alot since im pickin up a 468 bbc today and i wanna get the 489 stroker kit for the bbc but im not sure how much HP i could put on the rods and everything. the kit is the

Competition Assembly kit which includes : "ESP" pin fit 4340 H-beam 3-D rods, std/std "ESP" forged steel crank, SRP/JE forged aluminum pistons, piston rings, rod and main bearings, plasma moly cast iron ring set.

specs on the 489 kit are bore: 4.280'' , stroke: 4.250'', rod: 6.385'', pistons: Dome @ 18cc, comp ratio: w/112cc head 10.7:1, w/118cc head 10.2:1, w/124cc head 9.7:1

im goin with a set of Edelbrock aluminium Performer RPM heads with 118cc so compression wont be bad for the street. but i dont know how much of a cam i can go with and what intake to go with. maybe you guys can help. im lookin for about 550hp if not alittle more or less. any help is greatly apprciated. thanx guys.

You'll be more than safe with those rods. Friend of mine has the Eagle H-beams in his 700 hp bbc with a 400 hp shot. Another friend has stock rods in the 454 that makes about 650 hp with a 250 shot on top of that.

You will be blessed with all 550hp that you will have to. Count on getting at least that out of an engine like that. Probly closer to 600 hp if you get a tune and the right cam. 1.25 hp/c.i. is easy with Alum heads on a big block. The torque, whoa... you will be pleased when its finished. Plan on getting a cowl hood....

Mmmmm torque Should be fun when my 427 is done. Btw, I'm going with the Eagle H-beams for that thing too even though the stock rods have survived so far through it's past owners.

Cool thanx guys that made my day, now its time to save for the kit. i was just worried like i heard of some eagle rods only being able to hold about 450hp but now im not worried.

plus i have no clue what im doin as far as cam. i know thats a big part of how much power im goin to get. what would you guys suggest thats a fair street cam but yet is great on the strip. im lookin at the Compcams Magnumcams 292h : adv. dur. is 292, lift is .550'' rpm range is 2500-6500. i cant get on comp cams spec charts for some reason so this is all i have to go by. you guys think that cam is good or should i go a bit bigger?

this car will be used once in awhile once i get this motor done and in so its not goin to be a daily driver after this motor is in.

also i already have a 3'' cowl hood, if i have to go bigger i might get a 4'' i think its goin to come down to intake and filter size.

With my experiences, i would stay away from comp cams. If you do run comp cams, make sure to run different lifters besides there own. Unless you plan on running roller, which i still woudlnt run a comp cam. Could i recomend companies such as Lunati/Crower/Isky/Crane as alternate choices. All of them companys, you can call and they will give you the correct cam for your engine. If i was just out looking, you will be going with a RPM intake manifold, and assuming your 550 hp goal, a cam around 230-240 ground on a 110 lsa would be my pick. Stay around .55 and up lift, and with that big engine, a cam that big, you should still have bottem end with a 2500 stall.

well i completely tore the motor apart to night only thing thats left is the cam bearings and freeze out plugs. it looks like im goin to have to go with the Eagle 496 kit becuz theres some ruff spots on the walls where something either dug into it or something but its nothing alittle machine work will do.

also the cam in this motor was shot. so now thats a paper weight.

im lookin in jegs right now at the crane cams powermax hyd. roller cams and think i might get the first roller cam they list on out of the 2. Adv. dur. 288/296* gross lift is .587/.610'' and rpm range is 2000-6000. so ill probably get a 2800 stall converter to match it pretty close. im not sure about my gears in the rear end, there 3.73's.

then ill go with crane cams roller lifters and all the other little things. might go with just one company to get all that stuff from.

and i think with the heads im goin with Edelbrock alumin performer rpm heads but im not sure weather to go with oval or retangle port heads. oval have 110cc smei-open compbustion chambers and the retangle port heads have 118cc open-style combustion chambers. the compression would range from 10.2:1 - 10.7ish:1 but for the same price for either head i might stay around 10.2:1 compression just for the street.
