swapping in 350 with 305 heads

1) my heads are done, i was originally going to put the 305 heads on my 305 block, but i decided it would not be a wise choice b/c i was afraid of the over 100,000 miles on the bottom end.

2) im going to be swapping all the 305 stuff on the 350 for the time being b/c i need it in running in 2 weeks for school.

3) will everything swap over? what will my compression be? what cam would go good in my 350 with the 305 heads?

PLEASE HELP ASAP :hail: :hail: :hail:

is the 350 a roller block? or a flat tappet block.?

The camand lifters out of the 305 will work fine in the 350 if itsw a "roller block"
you can improve on it with a aftermarket cam as long as its not too big. Get a EFI friendly grind. (wide lobe separation).

The 305 top end will bolt up fine. use a 350 head gasket.
need to know about the pistons ( dish volume, deck height) in your 350 to tell you the new cr with 305 heads.
Were any changes made to the heads?

the old 305 was a hydraulic roller, the new one is a hydraulic flat tappet

i have a guy doing the whole engine, and he's gonna give me all the parts machined so i can put it all together, he's supplying me with everything i need including gaskets for the tpi and all of that.

i dont think there were any changes made to the heads... i have to ask him, ill get back to you... thanks for replying to this post

this is my current setup after the swap:

block: cast, bored .030 over, everything cast, 9-1 pistons?

cam (mellings):
valve lift: .422in, 444ex
lobe seperation: 107in 117ex
.050 duration: 204in, 214ex
hydraulic flat tappet

heads: cast, off 305 TPI, they are 58cc, and make 9.75:1 compression with my pistons

i just got a new cam for christmas:

(lunati voodoo)
valve lift: .489in, 504ex
lobe seperation: 110
.050 duration: 227in, 233ex
hydraulic flat tappet

i need to know what heads to pair with this cam, and some other things, but lets start with that.

Those heads, if the right things are done:

1.94/1.60" valves (1.50" would probably be okay for the exhaust if push comes to shove).
Guides cut for positive seals, which would also give clearance for the new lift.
Springs for the lift.
Pinned or screw-in rocker studs.

yeah, see.... thats what i've been being told by the guy who helped me build my engine in the first place. thats why i kept the 305 heads on it to begin with. i've just been told by different people that it would be more worth it if i got NEW heads.... do you know what the difference would be??? HP wise if i got a new head, rather then just upgrading mine??

Probably something in the neighborhood of 20-40 more HP than well-prepped 305 heads. If you have a stock manifold with the 305 heads, probably even more.

see the thing is, im gonna have more compression with my 305 heads, so wont i be making up in power there too insted of going with a new head? like say i get it decked, to like 56cc or something instead of 58cc which it is now, if thats possible. what would you do if you only had about 500 bucks to spend???

For $500, do what you can with the 305 heads.

how much hp do you think i can make with my 9-1 pistons, on the 305 heads that are 58cc, and if i use a small head gasket which would make the compression like over 10:1, and if i obviously put the correct sprigns that can handle the cam i have???

Probably in the 350 flywheel range.
