Left side oil dip stick problem
I just swapped out the LG4 engine from '82 T/A with a genI 350 short block with the oil dipstick on the left side. I want to use the stock exhaust ( due to emission laws ) but the manifold won't clear the dipstick. The down pipe (where it bolts to the Y pipe is right by the hole. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...Tom

been there
I just dropped a 010 350 in my 87 t/a and had the same problem, BEST thing you can do for the performance is get headers....
now with that said, i didnt have the cash for headers yet so i had to modify mine, if you use a regular dipstick made for the lefthand side, you can use a tubing bender and alot of patience and bend it up to where it passes between the head and manifold, tis a tight fit and we had to lightly grind the manifold and head to smooth out the castings but the dipstick goes through there fine, has zero hangups in the tube and measures correct. downside is the oil tube is resting on manifold and will get hot.
do this with valve cover off on that side as the lip on the valve cover will clear fine when done, but is in the way while working.

Welcome aboard.
Emissions-legal headers are available. Or, a Lokar flexible dipstick has been known to work.

Thanks for the advice as both are helpful. I was not aware that they made a flexable dipstick. I'll have to look into that option......And glad to be aboard!
