donor car
ok so im looking for a donor car for a v8 swap. i know its good to get your same car as the donor but how far can you vary from your model? like using a firebird donor for your camaro? or differences in generations? or completly different cars all together? would all the same parts still be there to use just as easily?

An engine, is an engine, is an engine. It doesn't really matter what vehicle it came from, all SBC's are about the same. If your going to do a total swap you can use any engine from any 3rd gen. But any SBC will physically fit and work. If it was me i'd get any 350 or 400 and put on a carb, or an LS1!
The parts from any 3rd gen 82-92 Camaro or Firebird will work for parts. It doesn't really matter others will work too.

Well, the tach will be different in a 'Bird than in a Camaro. And, that's one thing that needs to be changed in a V6 to V8 swap.
You should also look for '91 or '92, since yours is a '91. But, that's primarily for emissions legality.
Having put a complete '86 LG4 into an '82 V6 body, I can tell you that you will come up against "little things" if you deviate too much. Little things like the ECM harness pass-through plug being larger for the '86 than in the '82. And, I did a complete dash swap, only to discover the rear chassis connector (and number of wires) changed between the years. Spent a lot of time sorting that out.
