350 TPI compatibility with 305 tbi

Well,
Ive had enough of the underpowerd LO3/305 tbi....Im looking for a new engine even though i just rebuilt my 305 tbi....I came across a 350 long block that was out of a 1989 camaro...it doesnt have the intake but it does have the heads...It was a TPI so i was wondering if i could bolt up my 305 edelbrock intake to the 350 long block tpi motor and call it good? Also all the accessories should line up also? And would i have to change the computer and change the TBI?All and any info will be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can use the 350 and install your tbi setup on it as well with no problem. As far as sensors goes, you would need a 350 knock sensor to go with the 350. The rest of the sensor on your 305 can be used on the 350. Your current ECM will work with the 350 but best to have a custom chip burned to get optimum use out of the 350 engine.

Your power will depend on the chip work. If you use the stock chip you won't gain much and you will have a motor that has horrible drivability and eats gas. You will also need larger injectors. However, with the right tune you can peform basically the same as a 350 TPI car. I would keep the motor off to the side for now and build it up. In the meantime, get familiar with chip work. It will be the most crutial factor.

thanks for the info shifty....Now,since i have never owned a 350 tpi car, what would i expect compared to my 305 tbi??Also is there a company that can "burn" chips according to my application? Also if i were to install the 350 tbi, what kind of performance would i be looking at?hp and torque numbers....just an estimate...

If you are in no hurry to install the engine, I would do what ShiftyCapone has posted and set it aside and maybe build the 350. Maybe get a bigger cam, get some work done on the heads, and upgrade to aftermarket headers. Maybe you can find a 454 TBI to replace your current tbi. This is what I have and currently playing with it in regards to making it bigger to feed my 350 vortec. If the 454 tbi does not work then I will go with a carb set up.

Well it depends on what you put in the motor. If you keep it stock with the L98 heads and cam you can see 230 to 250hp with ease. My numbers are based on the assumption that you have headers, and a properly burned chip. There aer mail order places that burn chips but they are nothing more than a blind folded effort hack job. The only way to tune a car is to have it on hand watching the parameters of the chip in real time. Off the shelf chips are like mail order surgery.
