LT1 Swap??

I just totaled my 93 z28 with 55,000 miles. It was a strong and consistant 14.1 car stock so i dont want that to go to waste. I want to put my motor, tranny, and rear end into a 91 rs with a 305 that has about 100k on it. I hear that the motor and trans will slide right in pretty good buy what do you do about the wiring and computer? Isnt there like a adapter you can buy? How hard will it be to put my rear out of my 93z28 into a 91rs(3.23 posi with disc brakes)? How hard is the brakes to get fabed up? I have two very good friends that both are macanics and they said that they could do the complete swap in a long weekend (3days) does that sound right? Thanks for the help. After i buy the third gen could i do the swap for under $500 with out labor? THANKS!!!!

all i know is a 4th gen rear end is 2 inches wider that a 3rd gen.all of the guts from the 93 rear should fit in your 91 housing.

yup even the backing plates will be the same, only thing that won't fit are axels (longer)

LT1 fits in the engine bay nice

Tranny, either way is good as well.

305 RS means a TBI engine and a weak *** pump, you'll need a TPI pump, the tank from your 93 will fit but the fill neck is to long.

better off picking up a TPI pump.

Also wiring is very easy to get going as you are using the whole drivetrain, just use all your wiring from the 93, and it's pretty easy to splice into the 91's harness when your doing it.

Also if you keep A/C do a search as you have to modify the passeger mount to keep it. I just used an A/C Delete pulley.

3 days, is very tight as a time line. Course if you have 2 mechanic friends helping that should make things go fast, but it's more parts that you need that you don't have or forgot, or wiring that take time.

I pulled and installed my LT1 myself (friend helped on the really hard stuff) pull took me 3 days and install another 2 days. (first time doing this)

But under $500, ya since your only looking for odds and ends and you have all the bulk pieces.

My only recommendation is maybe find a Z28 or iroc with TPI, save the hassel with the tank. But it's not a big deal.

The 90-92 camaro has a 4000 pulse / mile speedometer, your LT1 pcm also outputs the same 4000 pulse/mi signal, it will work just fine.

Since you are going to go through the trouble of swapping the pump, why not do it right the first time and at least install a high flow ?

I guess you don't even know that.

The 4th gen rear is 3" wider.

Also, I believe the speedo pulse is 2000/min in the tbi cars, not 4000. I just ran the signal wire from the pcm to the speedo.

The speedometer sees a 4000 pulse in both cars, the cruise box gets 2000.

You sure about this? I know that the TPI FP puts out about the same as the LT1 FP. I don't know about volume thought. Aren't the injectors and regulator the things that see how much fuel the engine gets?

The LT1 pump doesn't double the flow of a TPI pump. I believe they are very similar if not the same.

The injectors, pcm, and fuel reg. do determine how much fuel the motor gets. But, if you push the motor to where it is running out of gas, flow comes into play.

I used a 92 Z28 pump on my LT1 with nitrous. I had no problems with feeding the motor.

I just recently switched to an LT1 pump. But that was only so I could use the LT1 fuel lines.

I have the 92 Z28 fuel pump if you are interested.
