572 gm crate in a 3rd gen?

ok i have been talking to the local gm dealer to see what they can do for me on a crate motor..well we got to b.s.ing about cars and he asked what i was up to with wanting an engine..and i showed him the plans i have and all..
well he said that he knows a guy who works at another dealership that has a 87 z28 that he went and put in a 572 crate...

anyone else do this or think of this..i want to go and look at it but it is like three hours away from anything i have that much interest in..
just wonderin how the heck that works and runs....he said its bolted to the rest stock drivetrain..somehow im doubting a 10-bolt and a 700r4/t5 will hold that power...but i would like to see it..lol

I would be very concerned with clearences since the 572's are tall decks.

it will fit but you would need custom headers.stock bb manifolds can be made to work but would be very restrictive.

i would figure if he has all stock stuff behind a the 572 it probably has some radial tires on it.so it would probably just spin a whole lot so it would not tear it up as quick.put some slicks on it and it would hurt something in a few passes.

my 540 is a tall deck.

The 572 swap would be a novelty car. The crate engine costs like 10 grand and the fab work needed would be unreal. You would basically have to prep the whole car for this motor. You would be better off with a different swap if your wallet doesn't carry a 15k to 20k allowance.

Not only that, but for the price to hp ratio, one could easily build a normal BBC to duplicate those numbers for less money, equal or more power with no hassle of installation. Drivetrain/chasis would still be the weakest link. I'm all for crate motors for certain applications, but that's just waay to much coin for no more than what they are!!

i agree,a 502 crate motor would be a more economical choice if you just had to go with a crate motor.
