Very interesting. I think you're gonna need a stronger rear end too. At least a 10-bolt anyway.
The nice thing about Ponchos that no one seems to realize is how much huge displacement you get in a block that's close to the size of a Chevy small block. And the torque is amazing. You can roast the tires as long as you want with these engines, or make the car disappear in its own cloud.
Did you replace the connecting rods with forged? If not, did you at least use ARP bolts everywhere? Also, what are you going to use for a header, out of curiosity? Headers are even a tight fit for a Chevy 350 in these cars.
Any website with pics of the project?

I had a supercharged 355 sbc in it with a t-5 tranny. It didn't scare me. I have a 78 trans am with the 462 and the muncie in it. It ran great yet i couldn't get a title on it. So since my baby is the 84 trans am I decided to go a little farther and put the 462 and muncie in it with the supercharger.Paxton 9lbs. I'm running a 9 bolt disc 3.42 rear end out of a 88 Firebird Formula that is fully rebuilt. I did find somebody that had headers on a pontiac 400 bb in an 82 ta, but I can't contact them. And I would like to find out what headers I can use without fabricating them. Plenty of fabrication is involved with this yet not having to fabricate headers would make it one step easier. I don't have any pics yet b/c I don't want to take pics of my baby naked like this. She deserves more respect than that.

The only other thing I was wondering was how your emissions test will go with that car. In 1984, emissions was tighter than in 1978, wasn't it? Or are you fortunate enough to live in an area that doesn't have the smog *****?
You might check out Indian Adventures online to see if they carry retrofit headers for thirdgen F-bodies. They sell all kinds of Pontiac stuff there, even a cool aluminum 455 block that can be bored and stroked to over 500 cubic inches.
The Muncie will work great. If you ever want to overdrive it in the future, check out www.gearvendors.com for an OD tailhousing that fits a Muncie. The OD is 0.78:1.
I think I will rebuild a rock crusher Muncie and stick the GV OD on it for my Corvette someday when my M21 is on its way out. That car has a 427 in it.
