2.8 to 5.0 swap? Whats the Price?
ok.. i have 2 1988 camaro SC's one with 77k miles.. 2.8 with automatic tranny....other one is a 1988 SC with a 305 V8 and a 5 spd manual tranny... i want to flip flop the set ups like put the 5spd and 305 in my 77k mile SC.. if i want to do that what do i need to and is it worth it performance wise to do it? i mean what would i need to do? i know i need to rebuild the 305 and the 5spd tranny... because they have 153k miles on em... so what would i need to do the tranny to redo it.. replace clutch or is there more to it? plus when flip flopping the set ups do i have to worry about anything computer wise in the car im puttin the V8 and 5 spd into? my overall question is... how much would i be lookin to pay for a pro to do this? and how long would it take? because the donor car is a stock V8 88 SC and the reciever is a 88 SC stock V6 i just wanna know how much id be lookin to pay and is it worth it performance wise in the long run? or can i make a pretty decent **** eater with a V6?

If you have enough money to pay someone to swap those engines, you could make a killer 2.8L instead! Actually I'd bump it up to a 3.1L.

The only conditions under which this should be considered are:
1) The V8 car is trashed.
2) The V6 car is pristine.
3) You only expect to be able to drive one of the cars when you're done.
4) You find a builder 350 engine and rebuild it to put in the V6 car when it gets the V8.
5) You do all the work yourself and don't pay a penny to any "professional" to do the swap work.
If any of the above conditions are not met, save yourself some money and sell them both to go buy a car that already meets your performance criteria.
