Thinking about ditching the BBC

Hey guys ive been thinkin alot lately about ditchin my idea with the big block i have. i already have it torn apart, just waitin on funds just like alot of things. im mainly thinkin of gettin rid of it becuz i wanna do a turbo set up with the BBSdesign single turbo set up which is about $1500 more then the 496 engine kit for the big block.

but i also dont know if i wanna build the big block for boost or not, like 10.2to 1 compresson. i justlove the sound of a turbo spooling up weather its on a 4 banger or a v8.

what do you guys think? also id be stickin with the 305 until that goes completely dead if i went with the turbo kit.

Turbos are fun, but can also be a pain. Though I suppose a BBC can also be the same! So, no idea. There are less Turbo 3rd gens though, so maybe go that route!

ive been also thinkin that if i turbo my 305 now. i can build the bbc for boost and then end up just havin to make my own turbo headers and just use everything from the other motor. the kit im lookin at will make 650 on a tpi 350 so it should be enuff for a bbc if not ill get a bigger turbo. but atleast ill still have everything id need with out tryin to find things.

Do you currently have the TPI setup? I think that is a major part of the BBS turbo kit. Without that, it will require a lot of modification and thinking!

well im either goin to stick with carb and get a blow thru design carb or convert to the holley stealth ram. but im not goin to be using the intake tubes that come with the kit. im goin to be either gettin a front mount innercooler from a GrandNational or a 240sx (saw one and looks like it will fit). so thinkin and fittin will be mainly into the design of the pipe routing.

A good 496 built for NA would leave a turbo near stock 305 like it was stopped. The power curve on a BBC would be so much more impressive. Tuning is also more complicated with a turbo car. Go with the BBC if it's cheaper.

Why not both? Turbo the big block and leave EVERYTHING in the dust!

If only one though, I'd go with the big block.

well thats what im thinkin now. im thinkin of gettin the turbo kit, front mount inner cooler and put it all on the 305. then build the bbc to a 496 and get like 8.5to1 compresson and then take all the turbo stuff from the 305 and put it on the 496 excupt the headers of chorse. so ill have to make my own. other then that it would be just boltin everything back on and tunning it right.

im thinkin of stayin carbed with the turbo set up. saw someone on here with twin turbos running an edelbrock carb. ill look into a good blow thru carb and see what all is ned to be done.

i really want to do a turbo mainly since theres NO 3rd gen that turbocharged around my area or in NJ that i know of. so i wanna be different

There isn't a turbo out there that would work well on both a 305 and 496.

This being the "Engine Swap" forum rather than the "Power Adder" forum, however, not sure if this discussion should stay here.

I'm not happy with the BT turbo setup on my truck. I think I loose too much boost. It's fun to drive lag is low on my setup but it took alot of work to get there. It's really more of a novelty then anything else.

I'd vote for the BB, I know fisrt hand how much fun it is to get all the parts to do the swap but I think the end result is better then a turbo setup.

well i did alittle serchin the turbo that im lookin at can suport up to 650 hp. i could upgrade the turbo in the kit to the t76 which on trubonetics says will support 550-1000 hp on a single up. so i think that one turbo will work.

There isn't a turbo out there that would work well on both a 305 and 496.
i think you might be wrong, depening on what the person wants will decide that, the turbo that comes with the kit probably would be slight restriction but the t76 surly wont be.

but any way.
