my 305 is almost dead...
hey y'all LONG time no post. well my 305 is pretty much dead at 99k miles. it has 2 dead cylinders my dad's mechanic is gonna run some tests see whats exactly going on but for the most part my engine is history. im hoping its a really annoying ignition problem but the thing is it cant even have a smog test run. the car backfires like crazy first of all and as i drive it acts like it wants 2 cut off and die but kicks back in. sometimes it just dies outta nowhere (she seems 2 love 2 **** me off and do it right when the light turns green lol). it also takes forever for it 2 start on some occassions. anyways i live in CA so i need 2 pass smog so how hard would it be for one of those nice gm performance parts 350 crates 2 make it smog legal. everything else in the car is in good shape, new ecm, radiator etc. really sux im on a tight budget but if i sell my lil iroc i will surely regret it it being my first car and all. adios!

You need to retain all of the LG4 control systems. Basically anything that isn't on the Goodwrench longblock will have to come off of your LG4. Pretty straightforward.
However, if your problem is actually within the LG4 control system, you will not solve the problem by replacing the engine.
Find out what's wrong before you go out and spend $1600 that may not do you any good.
