84 crate swap

I am getting ready for my first swap, and after searching I have a few questions. I have a 350 edelbrock crate motor and I am getting ready to put it into my 84 vert. The original motor is the 305HO, what wiring/computer issues will I have? I can't find much on 84 carbed wiring. Will I need a new fuel pump? Any other advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

How complete is your crate motor?

It's all there, long story but ended up with a pickup with the motor that was a project. It was running fine but the truck is a pos so the engine is going in my car.

You could just drop it right in with your computer controlled carb, distributor and sensors, if you wanted.

Would doing this cut the power down? The motor has an edelbrock carb (not sure which) and intake also. This sure does sound a lot easier though.

You might lose a little power, but probably not that much after tuning. Your mileage would be better, and you wouldn't have to hack up your car to do it.

Thanks for the info, I plan to start the swap this week and this really helps. Would you use the stock air intake or the edelbrock one?

It depends on which Edelbrock one you have.

I'm pretty sure it is the performer ci/320hp. The picture looks correct except for the waterpump.

If it's the Performer 2101 spreadbore intake you have, go ahead and leave it on, it'll fit your stock Q-jet just fine. It won't take your EGR valve though.

The carb and distributor are non-computerized, whereas your current carb and distributor will work fine with the engine (and fit the intake as Apeiron says). The manifold is non-EGR, so if you use the CC parts currently in the car, you'll need to keep the EGR solenoid there with no vacuum to it so the computer will stay happy. You may need to back the timing off a bit to avoid mid-throttle pinging (but, maybe not).

Using the carb and distributor currently on the engine will require some wiring harness changes (mostly removal). However, I'd say you'll get better power with the q-jet than you would with the Performer. And I'll 2nd the better mileage with the CC stuff than the Performer. And, with the Performer, you'll have to figure out some means of torque converter lock-up.
