V6 -> 305, almost done!
Ok, so my friend and I got a lot done on the car today. But we came into some questions that need answering.
1. How do you properly install / setup the rockers? We have them on but how do we adjust them? I have the chilton manual, should i just follow that? I have 416 heads with roller tip rocker arms.
2. The motor is from an 85 Z28, I kept nothing from that motor except the balancer. Can I run a serpentine belt on the accesories? I only have the alt (brand new 120amp) and the power steering pump from the old V6 motor with the 5 groove pulley's, I wont be running anything else except the water pump. If I can run the serp. setup, does the belt have to go around the balancer?
3. Where can I get the rod that goes to the manual fuel pump? It's the rod that is controlled by the cam to open/close the pump (?)
4. Will the power steering pump from the V6 motor work on the new block?
5. Can you recommend a good timing for my setup, it will be running an edelbrock 1406 carb, accel HEI distributor and a 214/224 (272/282 advertised) cam.

6. Can you recommend any good material for tuning/adjusting a carb?
7. what is recommended for breaking in the motor? I got the motor from a donor 85 Z28, i stripped it bare and sent it to be cleaned, checked and bored. They gave me a sheet that said to start it up and let it run at idle for 30 minutes, then drive it on the road under 3000rpm. Then it says to slowly bring the rpms to 3000 then let off of the gas real quick to let it throttle down. The sheet said this help seat the rings. It says to do that a few times at 3500 and 4000 as well. Then after 500 miles, it says to change the oil and drive nicley for another 500 miles.
Thats all i can think of right now. I hope to have this fired up and on the road for break in within the next 2 weeks. I'll post pics of the completed motor when we are done.
Thank you very much. TGO has been a great help in my adventures of engine swapping. Through the 305 slander and bashing of my choice of parts, i've gotten lots of great info.

You can learn all you need about tuning an edelbrock carb there. As far as break in, its a flat tappet engine, so totally disregard whoever told you to start it up and let it idle. Im hoping that you installed a new cam, because it is a flat tappet. Start it up, and let it run at 2000-2500 RPMs for 20 minutes. When you go to drive it, drive it at varying speeds. I usually leave it in 1st gear and run it to about 5K and let it come back down on its own, in gear, about 3-4 times.
