Need An Engine And Have ???

Hey all,
My 92's 305 V8 finally died on me and now I am looking for a new engine....
I have a line on an engine here in AZ but I was told that it is in a caprice....
Does anyone know if the caprice engine will fit in the 92 camaro?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Also if you are local and have a complete 305 engine for sale please let me know

Thanks

Depends what year Caprice it is. More likely it's a regular small block, and yes it will still fit.

If it is the Lt1 Ironhead is that going to be better or worse then the stock 305 tbi that was in it?

If it is the 5.7 LT1 than it will fit with the proper conversion. It is the same as any other LT1 swap and certain things need to be changed to make it work in your TBI car. If the caprice has a 350 TBI (LO5) you can use that as well. The 350 LT1 will make more power than the TBI 350 in stock form but you can mod either to make nice power. The LT1 has more potential than the TBI but the TBI will almost be a direct bolt in in place of your 305. Beware of the 4.3L LT1 (baby LT1). Although it is better than your 305 it is not worth the effort to put that motor in that has less potential than a 350.

Cliff notes:

Find out what motor it is. Late model Caprice cars had 4 engine options.

350 TBI (LO5)
305 TBI (LO3)
4.3 LT1 (L99)
5.7 LT1 (???)

The 5.7 LT1 has the most power stock and has the most potential but comes at the cost of doing a Gen II motor swap.
The 5.7 TBI can make solid power and can be virtually a direct swap into your curent car (no wiring changes or anything).

If you have a low budget and a small wallet I would go with the 350 TBI route. You could nab the TBI unit, motor and chip, add a new fuel pump and be on your way to a solid 220hp in stock trim. Add another $500 or so and you can add 50+hp with a heads and cam swap.
