305 TPI to 400 carb questions
Hi everybody, I have an 87 Trans Am with a 305 TPI that I will be pulling out to stick a carbed 400 in.
I have been searching the forums and reading the posts I could find about similiar swaps and was still left with a few questions.
Is it absolutely necessary to wire up the torque converter lock up?
From what I read on this site it isn't unless you want the added fuel mileage but I could have swore I read in a magazine about someone putting a carb on a fuel injected S10 Blazer and not wiring up the torque converter lock up and it quickly caused the transmission to overheat?
My car has the digital gauge set up, Will all of it still function properly without the computer?? How do I wire up the tach??
Is it possible to let the stock fuel pump in the tank and use a mechanical fuel pump?
thanks for any help

For the fuel pump, I don't believe you can draw "through" the old FI in-tank pump. The FI pump has to be running in order for fuel to go through it. I wanted to do the same thing with mine, but I guess it's not possible to just leave the old FI pump in there and draw through it.
I ended up just putting a fuel pressure regulator on there and used the stock FI pump because I didn't have time/money (I was renting out a garrage bay/lift) to drop the fuel tank to get the FI pump out of there.
