305 to 383 help!
I have a 1984 Z28 with a 5.0 305 an i want to swap it for a 383....
my questions.....
is it a straight bolt in or does some frabictaion need to be done?
strong transmission to pick up the slack...which trans?
wiring....easy or difficult?
i will have a shop doing it! thanks

Engine: 383 SBC
Transmission: ProBuilt S/S 700-R4 & ACT 9" Stall
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.23
Just a small block V8 to a small block V8. Shouldn't be a problem bolting it up.
Make sure to get the correct balancer and flexplate/flywheel. Would also be a good time to upgrade to some good poly motor mounts from enegry suspensions or similar company. By now the stock mounts have probably seen better days.
Be a good time for an exhaust upgrade as well. If you do not already have headers and a catback.
As for the wiring, fuel, etc I have no clue.

That's how to do it with the factory computer controlled system. Key is the cam for the sake of keeping the computer happy.
As mentioned, the 383 will be externally balanced. Otherwise, it's a SBC bolt-in with the normal "gotchas".

make sure you're getting a block with a passenger side dipstick or you'll need a new pan. also most 400s came with 168 tooth flexplate. If you want to keep your stock starter you can get a balancer plate that bolts on to your 153 tooth flexplate about $12
