camshaft help.
Hi guys, I am kind of new at this, If you could help me it would be great.
I just purchased a 1971 350 4 bolt main block, bored .030 0ver.
it has ported and polished 601 casting heads from a 305.
the previous owner sold the block becuase he got ahold of a 454.
here is my questions.
I just rebuilt the engine 10 k ago. I used the same cam, it no bad wear patterns. the old owner said it was a comps cam with .0500
lift, I dont know the duration, but the power of this cam comes on around 2800 rpms and pulls to seven. I think it is a circle track cam.
the manifold on it is a victor jr. I have a street avenger 670 on it right now.
my firebird is a 87, with a 3.23 rear end and the stock 5 speed.
the car is gutless below 3 k above that it is a rocket. the car has a very defined lope.
I believe my compression is at 11;1 because I get 235 psi per cylinder.
I need help picking a better cam and manifold.
All I want is for it to sound good have decent power and be enjoyable to me.
any help would be great...

Welcome aboard.
More gear would help keep the time below 3000 RPMs at a minimum, but you're probably right in thinking it's time to change cam & intake.
A Comp XE268 or XE274 would lower the RPM band. A Performer RPM or Stealth dual-plane intake would come in sooner and pull as long as the cam would.
