Anyone swap in the Pace Parts turn key 350?

I am talking about the 260 hp version that is listed for appx $2600. I am just curious if anyone has switched from FI to this set up? How difficult would it be to swap from TBI to this carb setup? Would it be worth it, or at least less difficult than trying to retain TBI?

I am just looking for options on replacing my 305. Let me know what you guys think about this setup and if it would be a good/worthwhile swap.

Thanks!

I didn't see it on their site. Have a link?

I assume that's the "universal replacement" Goodwrench 350. If so, the "turnkey" part is almost as much as the engine itself. That seems like a lot for an intake manifold, distributor, carb, spark plugs & wires, water pump, damper, and flexplate. But, I suppose it just depends upon what you get for each of those, since the little things do add up.

Less difficult than retaining TBI? That's probably a wash. Whatever you do, you need to get rid of all of the LO3 exhaust. The TBI parts that would need to be replaced are in line with what the carb parts you need to add will cost. The task of learning/doing PROM tuning for TBI would be replaced by learning/doing carb tuning, figuring out how to lower the TBI fuel pressure, figuring out how to lock up the torque converter clutch. The cost of TBI mods would be offset by reduced fuel economy (most likely) with carb.

Your car, your money, your time, your decision.

Thanks 5-7. I don't see it on their web site either, I was actually looking at the catalog (you would think would be the same thing?).

I guess one of the things you mentioned and one of the things I am concerned with is PROM tuning/chip burning. I know NOTHING about it, nor do I have any of the equipment, etc to start. I DO know SOME about carb tuning and also have a lot of "old timers" around who understand every part of a carb but see a computer and are stumped. Guess I would be looking to pool resorces if that makes sense?

I know this has been asked a million times and I will search further, but what is involved in switching to carb? Are there additional parts I would need to buy beyond what is in the "turnkey" set up? As far as maintenance, seems that FI would be easier once it was tuned properly but then again it wouldn't be a daily driver so that wouldn't be much of an issue. What do you think?

Go to the TBI and DIY PROM forums. The details are covered there. I don't have any personal experience, but I'm sure when Shifty reads this thread he'll chime in.

Switching to carb is covered in a tech article linked on the thirdgen.org homepage. It's also often discussed on the Carb forum.

Yes, there are additional parts beyond the "turnkey" crates. They aren't assuming you're putting this into a later emissions-era vehicle.

In general, I think people should work with what they've got. But, an argument can be made for switching to a different system, obviously. Most people don't consider all of the ramifications of the switch, though.
