Dropping in a 383
Hey guys, Its my first time post and I'm just getting ready to swap in a 383 into my 87 T/A. The 383 as sits is putting out 450hp but im popping on a weiand 6-71 and a 200 shot. I'm not much of a motor buff so im curious as to what Carbs Ill need to fuel it and what HP i'll be looking at. The T/A with T-tops is Stock at the moment, so I'm looking for some advice on what i'll need to reinforce it to keep from spewin parts everywhich way. I dont drive it real long distances, maybe 50 miles a week rarely do i put on 100, so street manners isnt really a prob. (last year i think i might have put on 300 if im lucky) I know I'll need SFC, The tranny will need swapping (but with what? preferably something with OD) will a 9 bolt rear hold up? and what rearend ratio should I look into? Driveshaft? Roll bars if needed? I was also looking into a roots style intercooler.and what everelse needed to keep her in one piece. Help would be great, thanks.

first off if you are droping in a 383 with a 671 blower and a 200 shot of the funny gas ....you will be lucky to put a nother 300 miles on that 9 bolt! you mite want to think about a 12 bolt or a 9'' rear end currie sells derect bolt in's . as far as gear go's 373 to 411's depends on want u want the car to rev to ? also you should put some frame conn on it . a 6 or 8 point cage would not hurt . it just a pain in the *** to get in and out of the car if it a ''street'' car. drop a nice 700r in it with a good converter .... So that just my 2 cents .
good luck with your inport killer ...lol

there is no way you will get a 700r4 to hold consistently behind that. i had a 388 with a 250 shot and was blowing built 700r4's every weekend. after about 7 of them i got tired of shelling out time and money and decided to convert to a built th-350 and stall. this lasted till i pulled the car apart after 2 years with no probs. i am now putting the same th-350 behind my ls1 conversion and it should last me

Well... I would have no regrets leaving out the nitrous setep if I can get around 600hp and get away with using one of pro-builts 700r4 rated at 625hp and still hit some desent 1/4 times.

the thing is, the nitrous will cool the blower off, and make it very possible to shave nearly a second of your times. I'd leave it on. call dana at probuilt and ask him. you could also try going with a 4L80E, althouh that's an electronic tranny, so it may be more trouble than it's worth. just call and ask.

my point is he would be better served getting a th-350 and putting a gear bender on the back then trying to make a 700r4 work. in the long haul he will spend less money, that is if he has to have overdrive

a gear vendor won't fit in an f-body with a stock-style suspension. the torque arm gets in the way.
