Motor Swap Questions

Ok guys....ive done some searching on here and i think im ready to begin my motor swap (LO3 to 350 carb)i know this is asked alot...and ive searched...but i just wanna check to be certain on a few questions....

For the fuel system...i can use the stock fuel pump....but it would probably be wise to go ahead and change it though right?

The factory gauges can be hooked right up with no problems?

these are my main 2 questions though. (ill probably run into more as the swap comes along...) i wont have to worry about the TC lock up problem...because im getting a th-400 to go with the motor

but the fuel system is the one that really worries me...if anyone could elaborate a little further into detail of what i would have to do...i would really appreciate it...

Thanks in advanced,
Dennis

If you use the stock pump, you'll need to use a regulator to reduce the fuel pressure to a carb-friendly 5 psi or so.

The gauges will be fine, you won't have to change anything to keep them working.

If you use a 3 port regulator, you'll just connect the inlet port on the regulator to the fuel supply line to the pump, the outlet port to the carb, and the bypass port to the return line to the tank. Not much to it.

All versions of the TH400 are different overall lengths than the 700R4, so you'll need a different driveshaft. The mounting holes are also in a different location, so it also won't just bolt up to the 700R4 crossmember.

I'm not sure about the throttle linkage, you might be able to make something work though.

can i just re-drill into the cross member and bolt it up...or will that weaken the structure or something of that sort??

I went to advanced the other day...and the only fuel pressure regulator they had was a 2 port....can i use this???

also does anyone else know if i could use the stock throttle linkages....

thanks for all the help

Try Spohn Performance. They make a quality crossmember to adapt a Turbo 400 to a 3rd gen. They make it with and without torque arm provisions. I installed one in my car. Oh yeah, it also locates the level of the tailshaft correctly. Speaking of tailshaft, it takes the big yoke where the 700r4 takes the small yoke.

Boo.

It would be better to order a 3 port regulator. The stock pump needs a constant flow of fuel for cooling. They don't like deadheading so much.
