V6 - V8 question
I have a 88 2.8 firebird 5 speed. I got a free blazer, 88ish w/ 350
I know I can use the engine but can I use the tranny if it is a 4x4 tranny? Someone once told me that I could bolt that 350 to the 5speed tranny my 2.8 has but will eventually kick the bucket because its weak. What should I take out of this free blazer?
Thanks in advance. PS the blazer tranny is automatic, also I have read the swap thread sticky, It didnt answer my question so dont tell me to read it. thanks

There is a sticky at the top of this page for the V6-V8 swap that answers alot of swap questions. Everything about the tranny is in the sticky, the V6 5-speed will not bolt up to the 350

ok, then NO the V6 tranny will not bolt up. Sell your V6 5spd & v8 auto & get a good,healthy v8 5spd.

Only possible exceptions are AC compressor (but the hoses and brackets will be different), alternator (early V6's were different, and again the brackets & wiring are different anyway), and power steering pump (guess what - the brackets & hoses are different).

You can make the 4x4 tranny work if you swap out the output shaft and tailshaft for f-body parts.
(As the sticky says, all possiblies aren't covered. Anticipating someone wanting to use a 4x4 transmission...)
