Could Possibly Be The Craziest Swap Ever?!?!?!
Could Possibly Be The Craziest Swap Ever?!?!?!
Hey Everyone! I own an 85 IROC and am looking to do one of the baddest swaps ever. I'm thinking Big Block with a Vortech YSI supercharger. The thing is I own YSI already so that part is taken care of. The major question that I have stumbled across is will that huge supercharger fit in the already tight engine bay with the BB??? Also, I am hoping to keep the car as "sleeper" as possible...stock hood, wheels, etc. I have my doubts it will fit with my plans of a Hogan's Fuel Injected Intake. My other theory is that the YSI/BB combo won't work because you have to rev the crap out of those YSI's.
Results= Dart blocked BBC + Vortech YSI = Is it too much?...Will it even fit?...Should I go 427 SBC?...or am I a just a litte crazy because I work too much?!?!
Any feedback is much appreciated on a BB swap and/or YSI in a third-gen. Thanks for the help!!!---Andy

If you dont want to go with a/c, i'd say get your hands on a 6.0 truck block 99 and newer, gen 3, its easy to get a 402 rotating assembly for it, and with the truck accessories you'd have the whole passenger side of the motor free for the blower mounting.

I think you are a little crazy because of too much work.
That being said, what do you want to do with this car? Maybe then we will be able to help you with a recommendation.

Other plans for the car world include drag suspension (coils all around), custom headers (obviously), custom duals, Moser 9 inch, not sure on tranny (probably TH400) and so on...

there is not a snowball's chance of a 700R4 standing up to a massively supercharged big block. worked TH400 is the only way to go, if not even powerglide.

We made a 454 and a Holset HX50 turbo fit under the stock hood. The intake is a Holley EFI airgap single plane.

The IROC is out om the streets now and we are starting to tune it. It is a bit much ... The turbo spools if you even look at the throttle The HX50 seems to be a bit on the small side. The engine has been up to 3500 RPM now. Idle is good with 150pph Injectors and the stock ECM. Supreme Member

Hmm swapping in a bbc is a bit of an undertaking in these cars, you might want to look at some of the SBC offerings out there, like the 454 Hardcore sbc.

The BBC will bolt right in using the stock SBC engine mounts.
You have to make some custom brackets for power steering and alternator.
The exhaust is tight.
You CAN clear the hood if you built it right.
Prepair to break any stock parts AFTER the engine.

I have an idea that would probably make you a 1of1, but don't know if it is even possible. I think a 426 Hemi would make a unique, killer swap. Hell, maybe even a 572 stroker. I know this would be a sacriledge, putting a mopar engine in a beautiful chevy, but favorites aside those are incredible, costly engines. If not I saw that you were also considering a 427 small block. Why not wait a little bit, the LS7 will be out soon and you can try to be the first to do that with nitrous or something. Just my two cents on some swaps i would try if I had serious dough.
