Help Settle an Argument
Quick and simple....
Can you push a 305 to 350+ cu inches? (ie. Can you turn a 305 into a 350?)
I think it basically comes down to whether or not a 4" stroke crank will swap directly into the block.
305 + .030" overbore + 4" stroke = 356
Is it possible???

thats a good question.. i suppose it would depend on clearances.. I would think it could work. Would like to know myself though.. The question I am sure you will here here alot though is "why not just a 350 block" Personally i just hope someone answer the question instead of critisizing

I've seen 4"stroke cranks stuffed in 350 blocks once or twice,so it stands to reason you could do it.I'd imagine that you'd wanna fill the lower part of the block with block filler, because by the time you made enough clearence in the pan rails, you'd probabley be into water jackets.
The biggest problem I could think of would be camshaft to con. rod clearance. The machine shop that I used to deal with built the 350 versions, but I don't know if they used a GM block or aftermarket with raised cam journals.
One way or another,I'm sure it COULD be done.I'll bet that thing would be a real pig, though. That would be the most sickly bore/stroke ratio I could think of,but it is an interesting idea.

yes, you COULD make it work...
i mean, you still would have a tiny bore that makes for poor airflow... but yes, you could shove that crank in there, have it clear the pistons, ect....

Thats a broad question.. can i stuff a jet engine out the back of my hatch.. yes it is possible. Anything possible if you had the resources. If your asking if a 356 - 305 is a a swap you could do i would say no. Anythings possible but so is installing a rocket engine... if you get what im saying.
