LS7-THird Gen. Some good info

SDPC has put out a price for 12,995.00 complete long block. This is gonna include the dry sump oiling system, ls7 heads(400cfm), ls7 manifold. Im gonna be looking into this swap for my 305/t-5. THink about it, 550+rwhp easy with a minor cam swap. Parts to spin to 7,000k easily. In a car (91 camaro)that shouldnt way any more then what the c6 z06 will weigh. Just wondering how much its gonna cost me to have it installed with a good t-56 behind it. I say it could all be done(new paint job, brakes, motor, fuel, trans)for 30k. And have one of the baddest cars on the road. WHat you think.

PS. How hard would it be to put a dry sump system in a third gen.

Yea well i currently dont have that much either :-). But...I would rather have spent 30k for a near complete race car that gets about 17/24 then have bought a cobra(though very nice)for the same price. I mean look at it. You could buy a good shape 305 with a 5 speed for about 5500.

5,500
13,000(ls7 complete crate)
2,000(paint job)
2,500(built t-56)
2,200(9/12 bolt)
4,000(complete install of parts)
1000(brakes)
All this with a crate motor that comes with a GM warranty.

Dry sump would be not a bad install. Do you know how it works? Pritty much all you will need to do is find a place for an oil tank.

for a swap like that i would add at least 2k for everything you dont think of, and all the small stuff you need. But 30k would sound about right for all you want to do.

You still need to address many other areas of the car. You need to address every detail associated with an Gen III/IV swap. Also, $30k in parts always isn't as reliable as a $30k car that is already assembled. By the time you have the liquid assets to buy this set-up you will have all your research done. Also, you can finance $30k for a car that already runs and has X amount of power. Banks don't give notes for LS7 swaps.

what about the harness, computer, exhaust, upgraded front and rear suspension, clutch, scattersheild, flywheel, wheels, tires. etc

will you be doing your own work or paying a pro?? 40,000 min, closer to 50,000 to do it right.

if you have the money - why not go with a ZL1 (572 cubes) engine? just sounds more impressive to me.

Well add $10,000 more and you can get that LS7 surrounded, with carbon fiber, magnesium, aluminum and composites.

is guess you would have 20k into it.

you could do it reliably for 15k if you've done it before and dont end up wasting money

you could get it running for 14k, but then you would have to wonder about the rear end...

realisticly, you shouldnt start the swap until you have 20k in the bank...

I think a well executed LS-7 thirdgen would be insane! but it's a big investment, i have over 20,000 in my 84. it looks like hell right now and is running poorly. Unfortunately i'm laid up and can't even walk to it to get some work done.

You would save a fortune getting a running motor and tranny from an LS1 fbody and punching it out to a 396 or so.

I'd rather have the LS-7 though!

Honestly, an LS7 is not the way to go - you are better off with a top-shelf LS1 that has been worked over to 500hp.

It will cost about $30k to do the conversion the right way - including suspension, brakes, safety equipment, aerodynamics, not including the car itself ($5K?). If you want to go overboard with a few things, you can rack the price up to $50K easy.

a few of the LS7 pieces would be nice... mostly the heads and rods.... and possibly the displacement (athough you can easily get a LS2 block there)

everything else... doesnt matter.
