2.8 - 5.7 write up?? Questions!
Okay okay, I have started my swap process. I am starting out with a 2.8l 88' Pont firebird. Donor car is a 83' transam with 5.7 and guessing a t-5 tranny.
I already removed the 2.8 and tranny. This is my first time removing an engine, and well i made a couple mistakes. I forgot to take the shifter off. so when i pulled the engine and tranny out the shifter got caught on the back firewall on the engine bay and cracked the bottom of my windshield!!! AHHH! anyways, I havent begun the cleaning process yet but I have a few questions.
1. Can I use my old wiring harness from the 2.8 to the 5.7? The 5.7 is a 4 barrel carb.
2. Can I use the exhaust from the transam, and bolt it directly to my firebird?
3. The transam has rear disc brakes, the brake assembly should bolt on to my existing firebird hubs right?
4. What other parts should I take from the trans am to use on my firebird. (speedometer? Springs? Anything?)
5. Which kind of headers should I use on this swap. Shortys or the longer ones?
This is my first engine swap... does anyone have a write up on this? I saw the sticky but it didnt have instructions, just possiblities. Any help is appreciated and may prevent future mistakes by yours truly.
The donor car was $250 has an Edelbrock intake manifold of some sort (says performer) and a 4 barrel carb from edelbrock too. I am not sure of which type.
The recieving car was only $200 So this swap may not be that bad. Thanks!

1. You can probably make the V6 harness work if you have a wire stretcher. Since the donor already had the V8, you'd probably be better off just using that harness, unless it's been hacked up.
2. Yes.
3. Probably, but it would probably be less work just to switch the complete axle. Don't forget the proportioning valve. Oh, the '83 has SAE fittings, and the '88 metric. How do you feel about changing all the brake lines as well?
4. Front springs, tachometer.
5. Shorties.
The sticky is as close as I've seen to a write-up. If you need a step-by-step, you're probably over your head. However, if you take photos before and as you disassemble, label everything, and keep it organized, it can be done.
