rid the useless
rid the useless
well im taking my 2.8 outta my 88rs and im going to be puttin in a 406carb'd, well im dissconecting the wiring and getting ready to take to old engine out. so if someone could mabye give a list of the things i need to keep in the engine bay or mabye a list of things to just get rid of. are all of the dash components fed to the computer? will that mean that i have to go all mechanical in the dash? anything like that helps since im just trying to clean out the engine bay while im SLOWLY building up the engine.
sorry everyone but your all about to hear a lot from me in the next year or 2 since no1 round here can teach me how to do this, im just kinda going at it myslef

congrats on finding the cojones to do this solo. it scares lots of people. bad news is this: you'll need to change clusters to a v-8 cluster cuz the voltage is different in a v-6 car, and the dizzy to tach wiring is a little different. but if you swap in a v-8 cluster, they'll work fine. you'll need the sensor from a v-8 for the temp guage, the oil sending unit from a v-8, and a fuel tank sender from a v-8 (maybe, double check this) to make the guages all work correctly. take the bulb out of the check engine light position as well. I'd disconnect the engine, then remove it. put the new one in (after installing mounts) and then figure out what wires go where. if the whole thing works, STASH (dont CUT) the unnecessary wires out of the way in the fenders or wherever til you can figure out what you don't need, and if you'lr ever going to use them again. hope this helps. do you have the motor and tranny yet? you're also gonna NEED SFC's.

Ok
Toughest part of the swap is relocating the engine mounts on the crossmember.
All of the guages but the tach will work right. (why wouldn't the gas guage work is beyond me!) The wires for all the guages do not go through the computer. They are located on the drivers side body connector by the brake booster.
You will need to use the purple crank wire and tan (I think) wire for power to and from the starter.
SFC's would be a good idea, but definitely not necessary to start the car
Good luck

None of the gauges go through the computer, and will all work as-is except for the tach. You can either put a V8 Tach in it, or get a Dakota Digital SGI-8 converter box.
