v6 to v8 questions ?
hey guys,
i just recently bought a built 5.0 and im now looking to swap out my 6 cylinder. i have a basic understanding of everything it takes to complete the swap but my question was will this 5.0 bolt up to my existing 5 spd tranny?
Another question I have is will this tranny handle the power from the 305?? it is pushing out about 270 horse at the crank.
Any other tips or info would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome aboard.
There is an "Important/Useful Information" sticky at the top of this forum about the V6 to V8 swap that briefly touches on that topic. The short answers are no to all of your questions.
The long answer is you can get a V6 tranny to work behind a V8 by using a V6 clutch disk, or by having a special clutch disk fabricated that is the V8 diameter but has the V6 splines. There has also been talk of an S10, I believe it was, disk that is larger than the f-body V6 disk but has the V6 splines.
A factory V8 T-5 can't handle a 305, so you can be sure that a V6 T-5 is going to have to be babied in order to have any kind of life behind a 305.
More details on the V6 T-5 can be found by searching the Transmission forum.

Yes you can bolt it up, you can either use an early thirdgen V6 disc which is 9 11/16 dia so not tooo far off from a V8's 10.4" disc, or you can get a new disc made, if you want email me and i can get you one if you cant find a source.
You will also need a V8 flywheel, pressure plate, bellhousing, and clutch fork.
Dont know about all this T5's will break behind anything, I'd say its mostly driver error, no they arent bulletproof but I definetly didnt baby mine, hell i beat on it hard enough to beat the living crap out of a few mustangs at the track, foxbody 5.0's and I definetly didnt have more power than them with my TBI longblock under my tpi, it was all in leaving the line a LOT faster.

thanks for the info guys,
I dont absolutely have to have the 5 spd, im looking for the easiest and cheapest way out. Would it just be easier to drop in an th350 or 400? or 700r4
then my next question is what would i do about a driveshaft?

If you car has the 5 spd right now the easiest thing for you will be to just get the V8 parts you need and bolt it in. Reuse your existing driveshaft.

so dropping a 700r4 or similir trans would be out of the question?.
I am starting to get kind of sketchy of the t-5s life so it looks like a might be looking at a new trans.

It's not out of the question. It's a question of how hard you expect to be able to beat on this thing without something breaking.

Most autos you get arent going to hold up all that well without an extensive (read expensive) rebuild, especially the 700R4, you'd for the most part be better off running your T5 and taking care of it and start saving up for a TKO or even a T56.
