What flywheel with 400 and a T-5

I'm going to be putting in a 400 SBC sometime in the near future and can't seem to get a definite answer to this question . Do I need to have the rotating assembly balanced ? Is there an aftermarket flywheel I can buy that will just bolt on and go ? Or what ? I tried a search and didn't find the answer to this .

Having the crank internally balanced would certainly put the issue to bed.

www.summitracing.com , p/n CTF-700102. 153 tooth, external balance, 10.5", 29.90 pounds.

Get a flywheel from an early T-5 car(2 piece rear main seal),and buy a bolt on weight(bolts between the flywheel and the crank).I've used these behind both 454s and 400s with great success.Speedway,Summit,Jeg's,or your local driveline shop should be able to accommodate your needs.

By the way,DO have it balanced,it makes a lot of difference in 383s and 400s,just don't worry about having it internally balanced, mallory metal is VERY expensive.

A friend of mine says to just have the crank balanced . That will work too , right ?

It will work, and is probabley the better of the two options, but be forewarned, that it is VERY expensive.

Hi I plan to do the same thing. I contacted a Hi-Perf store in the city I live in maybe 6 months ago and they said the would sell the proper flywheel for $300 Canadian or so. This is a brand new flywheel balanced and ready for install. The company name is Mopac, I'm sure you could phone toll free or just ask over the internet. Aimless
