350 TPI or 383?

So if I'm building a 350 TPI is it worth the time, energy, and money to bore it out to a 383? Not looking to do a major expensive build/swap, any suggestions?

1st, you don't "bore it out" to 383. A 350 becomes a 383 by changing the crank to a 3.75" stroke unit and cleaning up the cylinders with a .030" overbore.

TPI has difficulty handling a healthy 305. Saddling a 383 with it borders on criminal - at the very least, insanity. Unless, of course, you're willing to change out everything factory with aftermarket such as a Stealth Ram.

If you did it would be a torque monster, but run out of breath well before 5k rpms

If the bottom end is not going to be rebuilt or in need of one then i would say wait on it. If you need to do an overhaul already then go for it, not a whole lot more expensive then a good overhaul...

Simply looking for more power? That tpi unit is one huge restriction in your 350's power potential, hog that sucker out or look into aftermarket upgrades

Keep in mind however that there is No replacement for displacement...

except boost or nitrous i guess...

I would do the 383. So what if you loose some power throught the intake. You can always swap that out later. Build for what your going to do down the road.

Go with a 383. You can get right around 20+hp and tq over a 355. Sure the intake is going to choke the engine but its still going to make more power than what yur running now!

If your already doing a rebuild then YES ITS WORTH IT

Theres no replacement for displacement, and every mod you do down the road will make more power becuz of it.
