'90 Vette L98 into '88 IROC - Help Please
Basically I have swapped the Corvette motor into an IROC.
I am having a disagreement with my build-partner...
The Vette motor is a MAP system. The IROC was/is MAF.
He thinks he can just plug the IROC ecm into the Vette motor, needing only to lengthen one sensor wire as the sensor is in different locations.
My feeling is this won't work because:
a) The ECM in the IROC is a 165 and the ECM in the Vette is a 730...
b) The IROC ECM is looking for readings from a 305 and the Vette is a 350
c) I just can't believe that an engine set up for MAP is as simple as lengthening one wire to make it MAF
Can someone (five7kid?) please tell me what is really going to happen once he starts hooking up all of the sensors.
His plan is to use the stock 88 harness (MAF) and drop my MAP L98 w/alum. heads (I am aware of the EGR differences here) and just start hooking everything up. This is happening this afternoon. I would like to be able to convince him to take the wiring harness from my previous car and just transplant it over.
Any help, thoughts, would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

This might be a better topic in the TPI forum, but ...
Are you using the 305 TPI hardware on the Vette longblock? Or, are you putting the Vette engine w/TPI hardware in the Camaro?
If the former, I think he's right. MAF is pretty forgiving about displacement changes.
If the latter, I don't see how it would work.
