LT-1 Problem

Up front, this is in a 96 TA. A friend at work has one that is idleing very rough. To the point of just sputtering. When you give it gas, it does nothing. It doesn't get worse, or better. The engine will not rev at all. It is throwing a code for the mas air meter. That was changed for a new GM unit. It still does the same thing. The new unit made no difference. it can not be driven, as it will not accelerate enough to really move. I know this is not 3 gen related, but I don't know where else to look. I did a search and the closest thing I could find was the Opti is bad. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Did he check the wiring to the MAF for melted wires or a corroded terminal (I was getting false knock sense on my LT1 - Pulled the engine to put in the new 383 block and found my knock sensor wire melted to my header - oops....)

Also, check for a cracked rubber intake elbow. They like to crack where they bolt onto the throttle body or the MAF.

The next thing I would check is the MAP sensor. A bad one fo those gave me alot of grief and was not setting a code at all.

Unfortunately I tried the $30 MAP after the $150 MAF

Lastly, I have seen rodents chew up wires too.

Good Luck.

I'm not sure what he has checked so far. I will pass this info along.

Thank you,
Josh

I had this happen a few years ago, one of the wires to the MAF broke. Try unplugging the MAF and then starting it up and see how it runs.

Thanks Texas. I am going to guess, if a broke wire is the problem, then it should run the same crappy way?
