gm crate 350 ho install

i am looking at the specs for this gm engine12486041. Does the oil pan differ from the ones on our cars? I think the dipstick is on the right hand side. ours is on the left facing engine from front. will everything fit headers and y pipe wise? i bought headman headers and the y pipe i just have not ordered the engine yet. Basically looking for someone who has installed this engine and did you have to change your oil pan? or any other advice you could give me about the install that went bad. vortec heads= vortec intake already got one with a 750 holley. thanks ryan

Many have installed them. No issues once you get the intake taken care of.

JamesC recently finished an HO install. He started the "Sleeper" thread that's going on as we speak.

There were no oil pan problems with the install (350 HO Deluxe), though the dip stick and dip stick tube that the HO is equipped with will not accomodate headers. You can use the Lokar version or more cheaply the ZZ4 version:

If you remove the computer, you'll experience cruise control problems. Check the following link:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=310552

I'm unsure of whether or not my poly motor mounts pushed the motor up a bit or not, but the HO's 14x3 air filter would not fit under the stock hood. I was obliged to go with a 2 1/2 which eliminated the problem. Also, with the drop base, I needed a banjo-type fitting for the fuel inlet. The fuel line from the pump also required modification.

Some accessory brackets and the accelerator bracket (IIRC) had to be modified.

I also went with GM dual electrics--this link also shows the motor in place:

That's my point - once you get the Vortec-specific intake, which he already has, you've covered the bases.
