Buy a Performer or Action+ EGR intake manifold. Use your stock carb & distributor.

1st one: Okay, but poor heads, low compression, upgrades pretty much requires changing everything but the block, crank & rods.
2nd one: Okay, requires Vortec-specific intake manifold. Not emissions-friendly. Busts the stated budget.

Remember too that the rest of your car will have diffculties handling a 300 HP crate motor. I do not believe your tranny is going to like the beating that motor will give it. Your rear end is also going to be suffering. five7 this is true right?
On a side note, how do you think my 412 sbc ( say 450 ft/lbs of torque) will be with my non-WC tranny and stock 3.23 posi rear end. Both are in my 86 Z28. Should be ok as long as I don't pound on it right?

TH700's can handle 300 HP if treated to upgrades such as pressure relief valve and Vette servo. Typically, though, they will wear out and need a rebuild soon, anyway. They can easily handle 400 HP with fairly basic rebuild stuff, 600 with more expensive pieces upgraded.
T5's, whether WC or not, can be destroyed by a stock LG4. A $2000 kit (I forget exactly how much it costs - figures of $1600 to $2400 are bouncing around in my head) will cure that problem. But, like you said, if you don't pound it (no clutch dumps, no speed shifting), it'll last a long time behind most any engine.

Shouldn't be a problem. You may have to do some PROM tuning (TBI forum has more info on that). Power probably in the L98 range or better.
