Almost ready for my 350 swap

Just thought I would share a picture of some of my new parts. In another couple of months they will be bolted to a 300hp 350ci with a nation wide 3yr 75,000 mile parts and labor warranty. I would have done more hp but I want the warranty

Where's the 14 boxes of other goodies? LOL I'm teasing you, sort of. I just finished my 350 carb swap - all the empty boxes, bags, etc. from the 14 million trips to the auto parts store and mail order goodies to Git 'er Done take up about a 5ft by 5ft by 5 ft tall space on my porch.

Do yourself a HUGE favor - never throw out anything! I got the motor put in back in October, and here in March, I'm still going through boxes looking for references on connections, wiring, etc. from all the swap stuff.

My swap is taking time, due to lack of funds, and time to tinker - but I'm getting there. After I was complete, I found out my tranny slipped with the new horses, so I had to get a rebuild - just got it back in tonight! I'm still connecting and testing - found out tonight my vacuum controlled T/C lockup not wired correctly, and that my electric choke was toast, and found an oil leak on my intake - fun fun fun!

Good luck - feel free to email or PM me - I don't always know, but I'll rack my feeble mind to help if I can.

Isn't that the best part of swapping though? The various trips to the auto parts stores. Building an engine, running it, finding out that the lower intake gaskets are leaking oil down into the intake runners and down the back of the block. It just makes me smile, lol. THEN realizing that your half decent behind a half dead 305 700r4 lasts for about 15 mins behind the new running motor. Good times. Luckily my car is my hobby and not a daily driver.

Yep! Gotta love it! Without this project, I'd be forced to spend time with the wife! Which equates to spending time on "honey-do's" for the wife!

At least (with any luck) I'm coming to the end, mechanically anyways. I'm dying to get her on the road - I'm close enough to taste it now! Maybe by the weekend she'll be functional, and I can tag her, and drive while I start on the interior restore, body work, suspension mods, underhood cleanup/dressing, and all the other afternoon/weekend items to be done. It's becoming spring here, and I'm dying to take the T-Tops out and ride!

Well I didn't take pictures of the motor mounts, y-pipe, tcc lock up, corvette servo, rotors, calipers, wheel bearings, shocks, brake hoses, hood shocks, rad hoses....... etc Just took a picture of the goodies lol. I've been dissasembling the 305 for about a month now labeling, bagging, and tagging everything I'm just tinkering with it till I get my new engine. I have a question though do you know if the 86 TA 305 was a 1pc rms??? because my new 350 will be and i want to order the flexplate if not. Also I was wondering if I should spend the money on edelbrock gaskets. I'm trying to be patient I could by the engine tomorrow but I want to make sure I don't screw myself. Well anyway thanks for the posts guys. Hopefully the end of May I will be able to later guys

I dunno about the '86 and 1pc RMS thing. When I installed my 350 (a 1969 block) I just left the flywheel that was on it, and changed to a starter from that era - that solved the problem cheaper than a flywheel. Only difference in starter was minimal - the older model starter was a tad larger, but it still cleared my headers well enough.

May??? I'm guessing you have more time available than I did/do, since I started last June and I'm still not done! I only ever had a few hours in the evening, maybe a saturday afternoon herer and there, and I'm working outside (a true shadetree Joe here), so when it got cold, I had to take a break!

Want to TRUELY appreciate your work, do it in the driveway!

hey man I hear you about the driveway...I was lucky enought to have a roof to keep the snow off when I was doin my 2.8-350 swap...still had to bust my *** and my bank account to get-er-done befor it got below 0...at wich point my hand would freeze to the wrenches... ...but man every min and every dime sure was worth it...I hear you about the T-Tops too...good luck on both ur swaps!

Yeah I don't work on the weekands so I'm thinking it should be on the road legally by mid June. hopefully in and running no more than two weekands after I get the new engine. My engine won't be coming with a flexplate and I know it's going to be a 1pc rms so I was just wondering if I could use the original flexplate I know it's a 153 tooth just not sure if it's a 1pc or 2pc style.

And well as for the drive way thing I can feel you on that although when my 84 buick century blew a head gasket I got to do it in his back yard you ever try to find a nut/bolt in four inches of grass. Luckily I had an old 10" sub I cut the magnet off to help find them. Since I had this project planned I opted for an apartment with attatched garage so wheather is no worry and it never gets cold enough in Houston to worry aobout getting stuck to wrenches.
