305 to 350 ls1

Hi, I know this thread is probably already posted somewhere but since the search feature is down, i thought I should post a new thread.

I have an 86 Iroc with a 305 auto. The engine is shot. Also have an 83 Camaro thats been in an accident, the engine that's in it is most likely not the original. Its a rebuilt 350, the guy Ibought it from said that he got it built to 350hp in BC. I would like to put this 350 in the 86 camaro.

I need some information about the lt1 and the ls1. At this point I dont know anything about them. For now I would like to use the T5 tranny, that is hook up to the 350 right now, but eventually when I have the money I would like to hook up a T56.

So...
Is it possible to use that 350 block and convert it to an lt1 or ls1 setup? Or am I better off to find an ls1 or lt1 and rebuild it? How expensive would it be?

How hard is it to swap an auto to a T5(I have everything needed for it.)?

One more question. This has nothing to do with the engine but I thought I'd ask anyways.

What can I do to get rid of the rattle in the doors( the raddle when you close the door).

Thanks Alot,
Thomas

Your stock V8 is a gen I small block, the LT1 is a gen II, and the LS1 is a gen III. The Gen III mills are entirely difference animals and will require more than swapping in an LT1. An LT1 is similar to your stock V8 (external dimensions, basic layout) but cannot be created from a Gen I block. You will need to find a complete LT1 and or LS1 to start your swap. An LT1 swap will allow you to retain 3rd gen/Gen I headers, motor mounts and tranny mounts. An LS1 swap will require you to relocate the tranny and motor mounts. This is just a quick and choppy cliff notes overview. Take some time to read some threads in the LT1/LS1 swap forum.

swapping heads involves some costly machine work. By the time you bought the heads, and paid to have it done, you could have bought some really nice aftermarket heads.
