Old school 350/ 700r4 trans ?
I've got an 84 berlinetta with the 305 in it right now and I'm in the process of getting a 350 to drop in it. I was wondering if Chevy changed any of the bolt patterns between the 60's to the 80's. I'm not sure what year the 350 is but I know it's older than my Camaro. Will I be able to drop in the 350 and have it match up to 700R4 transmission thats in the car right now or should I start looking for another transmission to put in the car? I also need to know if the bolt patterns for mounting the engine are going to be the same.
Thanks for any info I can get.

The only thing to really watch with the earlier motors is that the heads don't have accessory bolt hols in the ends. I'm not sure of the exact year cutoff on that though. It was late 60's/early 70's when they made the switch.

'68-'69 is when the accessory bolt holes showed up on the heads.
No changes to the engine or tranny mounts since 1957. Rear main seal changed from two piece to one piece in 1986, which changed the crankshaft to flexplate/flywheel pattern. Intake manifold bolt angles of the center two bolts on each side changed in 1987.
Other than that, you shouldn't have any issues putting your 305 stuff on the 350.

Not to jack a thread but I was gonna ask the same question. I have a possibly 77 350 Goodwrench engine and I wanted to use my 305 TPI stuff and T-5 on it and maybe some vortec heads. I'll have to check into it now.

Also, the dipstick is on the drivers side of the block on 70's engines so the 3rdgen oilpan won't fit and the dipstick will have interference problems with the stock 3rdgen drivers side exhaust manifold.
