Swapped 305 for a 383 stroker-ready to start?
What can I expect tomorrow when I go to start this swap for the first time?
Here's whats been done:
Removed stock (spun bearing) 305 from 88 GTA.
Replaced with a 383 stroker built by a local speed shop.
Replacement motor came from a stock 5.7L 87 GTA that was running prior to rebuild. Intake system remains stock at this time.
All the accessories, march pulleys, edelbrock victor series water pump and AC/Smog delete pulleys, have been upgraded for the serp. drive of the 88 - A/C has been deleted and A/C delete heater box installed.
A.I.R. system has been removed, MAC Shortie headers and Summitt Mini Starter installed.
All sensors, wires and vacume lines connected and 5.7L chip installed in ECM.
So my Question is - What can I expect to hear and see when we crank this thing for the first time?
I plan on having a custom chip burned before I do anything else but have been told that it will start and run on the stock 5.7L chip, although it will not be "tuned".
Anyone know what I can expect?
Mike

Yes new cam. Here are the mods;
All new internally balanced cast internals,
Lunati cam with a 220 in. 230ex. duration and lobe separation of 112.
New ported World S/R torquer heads with SS manley valves and springs.
That pretty much covers the present mods.

The idle will be lean and the part throttle driving will be not perfect. You will get some surging when the convertor locks up also. Get the idle and part throttle tuned before you start romping on it full throttle.
The idle speed will be low and the car might want to stall if you don't raise the idle speed at the throttle body screw before you get the chip tuned. I think stock is 550 rpm in the chip and that cam won't want that.

Thanks man, you were right on with the way it would act. Got the idle straighted out and we're not ready to drive it just yet so we didn't notice the surgeing. Still need to get some things straightened out before we can drive it. She sounds great with a little loppy idle and no exhaust. Can't wait to get on the skinny pedal.
