Need advice on 350 TPI
I am wanting to rebuild my 350 TPI and get as much horsepower out of it as possible on a tight budget. Need advice on best cam and rockers and lifters etc for the best buck. It is a 1987 350 TPI iroc-z w/ auto trans w/ shift kit.
Only got 95,000 on it but it is smokin some and I cant stand that. Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Well if you are on a really tight budget, is it smoking when you start the car up? If so its the heads, pull them off and get new seals put in. List how much money you want to spend and the mods you already have.

I have made no mods so far other than cold air intake, It smokes when u crank it and mostly when u are sittin around idling, but not all the time. Money is not growin on trees right now but i can usually come up with what i need pretty quick up to a limit. I dont have many thousands but i can usually get what i need fairly quick. want to get new cam, maybe heads if needed and whatever i need to produce some more horses out of the same block if possible. just lookin for some suggestions and options so i can decide what to get when i start

Well you can start with exhaust, Edelbrock TES headers coated are 400.00 and Flowmaster 3" catback run 240.00. Air foil cost 40.00, MSD wires 60.00, TB bypass for coolent 5.00, good tune up and raise the timing from stock to around 10 degrees. Of course getting the motor fixed is the main issue, you can do a leak down test or compression test. Add oil with the compression test and you can find out if it is the heads or the rings going.
If you just want to Rebuild it, port the heads yourself along with the stock TPI system, add a crane cam 214/222 488/509 112, with crane gold 1.5 roller rockers. This is comparible to the GM ZZ4 cam and is a wicked cam for a mild 350, it can make 400hp with the right parts. The internals of the motor depend on what you have to spend. www.cnc-motorsports.com has decent prices on things. Eagle I beam rods 209.00, Hyper piston kit 180.00, Gasket set 94.00 ect..... Hope this helps.

What color smoke? You might wanna do a compression test as oil might be leaking through the piston rings.
