How to break in a fresh engine? Need advice

Hello all....As ive mentioned in previous posts, I swapped my 305 for a 350. Should be done tomorrow afternoon. Just need advice on breaking in a rebuilt 350. i.e. what not to do to f**k this up.

Ive heard that I shouldnt cruise at highway speeds for a while. Obviously I'm not going to thrash it right out of the box or anything, but some general tips on maintanence and drivign styles would be very helpful.

This is not going to be a popular response, and probably not the answer you want to hear but.... I take new motors to the track and beat the snot out of them. I have never followed the "break in" procedure you refer to, and yet I have never had any issues with breakage or longevity. When I ran flat tappet cams, my cam "break in" procedure was to fire the engine up, throttle it a few times to splash some oil up on the cam, and then take it to the track. What is important here, is to do what makes you feel comfortable. It is your hard earned money in that motor and if it gives you piece of mind to go through a long methodical break in procedure then do it.

Once your cam is broken in(not an issue if you have a roller cam), follow the procedure outlined here:

Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power

I've used it on many a motor and it works well.
