hey guys i have an 86 trans am and i was interested in doing a chevy ls1 swap into it after seeing this project car on this site Speartech Fuel Injection Systems

it seemed to be pretty straight forward although i have never done a swap. on a scale of 1-10 how difficult would it be? and would i have problems because that motor is fuel injected? i dont even have a clue where to start. i did some searching around here but i need to see some installs and how to's so i can study what needs to be done until i am ready to do it..

what kind of price am i looking at? i cant wait to get my trans am looking good and going fast..

As long as you have money and some knowledge of mechanics and wiring its a 5 on a scale of 1-10. I used an aftermarket Howell harness though so that made it alot easier................jt

if you've done this sort of thing before, its about a 3.
if its your first engine swap, and you're new to all of it, id give it a 7.

really, it depends on what you already know, and how good are you at working on cars.
not to be cocky, but i can drop a engine in on the mounts, and stab the bolts thru pretty quickly... meanwhile other people have trouble just getting it in the mounts... its easy for me because ive done it 1000s of times.. its harder for someone who hasnt had to do it before.. im sure you've had times where you just couldnt get this one bolt in (or whatever) and someone else can walk over and poof.. its done.
experience varies greatly between individuals... and that makes it difficult to define something as hard or easy. all i can say is, anyone can do it if they're willing to learn how.

Hey i just wanna say that i appreciate all you guys giving me inspiration on this. i picked the car up on friday and i was kinda having buyer’s remorse already just thinking of all the work that was involved, luckily i have all of you here which is a wealth of knowledge and younger brother that is pretty smart in this area and willing to help. But again i thank you.

It's dxefinitely doable, but you will likely need a buddy's help for some of the larger things, like lowering the engine in. Really makes it a lot easier.

Also, as mentioned, it makes it easier to either have the wiring harness prepped for a stand alone use or to buy one set up like this. They label the wire,s and it makes things much easier.

Below is a page I put together of my LS1 swap. The car was originally a carbed automatic, and now it's a fuel injected 6 speed LS1. Much better in every aspect. It's highly worth any expense or troubles you might have along the way.
