swapping a 84 305 for 69 327 oil pan

hey guys im swappin out my 305 for a 69 corvette 327 with forged pistons and ported 2.02 heads nice cam, torkker 2 intake and a 650 cfm demon carb. anyways she gonna be a nice motor for the budget i have. but i was just wondering if before i pull the motor out if i need to find a new oil pan or if all sb chevys will just line up if there 2 piece rear man seal or if there are other factors that come into play like the positioning of the dipstick.

You'll need a new oil pan. Your stock pan is for a newer block with the dipstick on the passenger side. The 69 block will have the dipstick on the driver side.

You'd probably want something better than a Torker 2 intake, too.

Yes, lose the Torker II... its a terrible intake no matter how you look at it. The factory 4bbl intakes are better that that! I'd suggest you either find a factory square-bore intake, or look at the more modern intakes out there. Intakes aren't expensive.

Anyway.... yes, you will need to change the oil pan, because of the location of the disptick. Look for an oil pan from a 2nd gen Camaro. They fit just right in a 3rdgen chassis with the 'old style' blocks. Thats what I'm using with my '79 350ci. Fits like the stock 305 pan did.

well if the 327 has an oil pan on it it should fit fine. you will have to get headers for the dipstick to clear because your stock manifold collectors run about 1/2 in from the hole for the driver side dipstick.
hope this helps

Not necessarily... Corvettes are funny like that. They like to be unique from all the other Chevys.

Yep, Corvettes and trucks have to be different and have a 5 quart pan. The Chevy IIs had a different pan as well to clear steering gear.

trucks are the same pan as cars, i dont kow who told you they are, you must be thinking of the fords and such

only 4 quarts go in the pan

the 5th is in the filter guys

come on now..

chevy II and vettes qare the oddballs, due to the oil stick location being in the side of the pan,

chevy sb pans were '55-79
then 80-85
and then 86-up

its really not rocket science here

for a 69 327 you need any pan from a regular car or a any truck '55-79

truck pans are not shaped differently nor are they deeper or anything else !

trust me on this

i used a oil pan off of a 69 rs camaro that was laying around for my '79 355 swap. they are all the same with the few oddball exceptions, of course.

There is such a beast as a 5 quart pan. I have one. GM even makes reference to it in their GM crate engine instructions.

Personally, I don't know if a '69 Vette pan will fit in a 3rd gen chassis. My first guess is it would, but I don't have any personal experience.

If it will not, the '84 pan will not fit the '69 block.

Hopefully that brings the discussion back on course.
